The party journeys to Metal City, the residence of the enigmatic Guardians, where Katsushiro rests after being wounded by an associate of Ukyo. They stay at the home of Honoka, a young woman employed by the Guardians. When the Nobuseri clan arrives to conduct business with the Guardians, the samurai choose not to intervene, citing a treaty that protects the Guardians' commercial activities. However, Rikichi and Kikuchiyo are unwilling to remain passive observers to the unfolding events.
