Balsa and Chagum, the latter with short hair, travel toward the mountains. The Emperor's hunters divide into sectors to locate the bodyguard and prince. Four hunters track the pair north, but secret hunters Taga and Sune, ranked seventh and eighth, suspect a western route. Mon and Zen corner Balsa and Chagum at a cliff edge. A large wolf drags them off the precipice, leading observers to assume they have perished. This event is orchestrated by Torogai to create the illusion of their demise. The hunters' conflicting reports highlight the difficulty in pinpointing the fugitives' exact location amidst the chaotic pursuit.
