Torogai discloses that Chagum carries the water spirit’s egg and serves as its guardian. Knowing the Emperor will not openly hunt the prince, Balsa devises a strategy to evade detection. A staged funeral for Chagum takes place in the capital, prompting a broad search operation. To secure resources, Balsa engages Tanda, who introduces her to the slave trader known as the Blue Hand. Balsa intends to use the Second Empress’s treasure to purchase and liberate the trader’s slaves. In return, she demands access to his hideout and one of his horses, navigating the dangerous political landscape to protect Chagum while avoiding imperial forces.
