Yui invites Hachiman and Komachi to a summer fireworks festival to thank them for caring for her dog, but Komachi declines to allow Hachiman and Yui to attend alone. During the event, the pair shop for Komachi to ease their first date awkwardness before encountering Haruno. Haruno discusses her complex dynamic with Yukino, noting Yukino's struggle with meaningful connections. Haruno accidentally mentions Yukino's role in a past accident, which Hachiman dismisses. Later, Hachiman walks Yui home, where she urges them to stop hiding their feelings and claims she would have befriended him regardless of the accident, a notion Hachiman rejects. As school resumes, Hachiman begins to despise himself for assuming Yukino could not lie after she concealed her involvement in the incident.
