Hachiman attempts to relax during summer break while ignoring Shizuka’s messages about Service Club duties. Shizuka eventually persuades him to join the club and other Soubu High students at a Chiba prefectural park to supervise an elementary school summer camp. During an orienteering event, Hachiman and Yukino observe Rumi Tsurumi being deliberately excluded by her peers, alongside Hayato’s repeated failures to resolve the issue. Rumi senses a similar aura in Hachiman and Yukino, confiding her troubles to them. Yukino warns that the situation will worsen when Rumi enters middle school with the same classmates. That evening, the group struggles to find a solution, leading to tension when Yukino dismisses Yumiko’s idea due to her lack of experience with such social dynamics. Unable to sleep, Hachiman finds Yukino in the woods, where she explains her motivation to help Rumi by seeing a reflection of Yui and recalling her past history with Hayato. Meanwhile, Rumi sits alone by a stream under the stars.
