A modern Japanese destroyer, equipped with advanced Aegis technology, is commanded by a newly assembled crew under Captain Umezu and Executive Officer Kadomatsu. During a routine training mission, a severe storm disrupts their systems, leading to a sudden displacement to June 4, 1942, the day of the Battle of Midway. Initially deciding to observe without interference, the crew avoids direct involvement in the battle. Their resolve to minimize historical impact is challenged when they encounter a wounded officer, prompting Kadomatsu to act on instinct and save his life, inadvertently altering events in ways they cannot predict.
