A virus known as Gastrea spreads rapidly, causing infected individuals to undergo continuous mutations that grant them new abilities at each stage, while they also become violent and infectious. Humanity, unable to combat an enemy that turns victims into threats, has taken refuge in cities encased in Varanium, a rare material effective against the Gastrea. The survival of the human race now depends on the Cursed Children—girls infected with the virus who have retained their humanity. These girls, partnered with others, are the only ones capable of fighting Gastrea in direct combat. However, their power comes with a cost, as their condition is unstable and ultimately fatal. While they defend the remaining human population, they are also met with fear and rejection.
