Black Jack and Pinoco ride a train to locate Dr. Jorujyu's research facility, pursued by Benitokage and her henchman Souryu. After Benitokage tracks them through the snow and suffers injuries, Jack treats her wounds. Inside the cellar, Jack discovers a document regarding the mysterious Phoenix disease. As a blizzard intensifies, Benitokage regains consciousness, takes Pinoco hostage, and attempts to kill Jack before trying suicide. Jack intervenes again, but an avalanche destroys the cabin, causing the document to be lost. The trio hides in the cellar until Souryu rescues them. Benitokage then agrees to assist Jack, revealing that Dr. Kuma, identified from a group photograph, resides in the Gabonese Republic in Africa.
