EP 1Unemployed gamer Ryouta Sakamoto wakes on an island forced to play the real-life version of Btooom!
Oct 4, 2012Ryouta Sakamoto, a 22-year-old unemployed top-ranked player of the MMO Btooom!, awakens on a tropical island with amnesia. He possesses a bag, BIMs, and a bead on his left hand. He encounters Yoshiaki Imagawa, who attacks him with bombs. Flashbacks reveal a dispute with his mother over job hunting and a meeting with two men before his memory vanished. Ryouta realizes he is forced to play Btooom! for real. Although he struggles with morality, he is cornered and forced to fight back. He sets a trap using a timer-BIM on a cliff, jumping into the ocean to kill his assailant. Later, he dreams of another argument with his mother and stumbles through the jungle, finding a girl refreshing herself by a river.

Oct 11, 2012Flashbacks reveal Himiko’s invitation to Btooom! via a deadly chain letter promising 100,000 yen for a target’s disappearance. Her friends were assaulted by Yoshioka, leading Miho to end their friendship. On the island, Himiko teams up with Mitsuo, Isamu, and Masashi. Masashi kills Isamu, prompting Himiko and Mitsuo to flee. Mitsuo later assaults Himiko, but she kills him with a timer-BIM. Traumatized by these events, Himiko declares all men her enemies. While refreshing herself at a river, she is discovered by Ryouta, marking a new encounter in her struggle for survival amidst the chaos of the game.
EP 3Ryouta encounters Kiyoshi Taira, who reveals the island's deadly chip-collecting game rules.
Oct 18, 2012Ryouta chases Himiko but loses her, instead finding Kiyoshi Taira defecating in the bushes. After Ryouta threatens him, Kiyoshi explains that he and thirty others were kidnapped and forced onto a cargo plane. A cheerful man announced a death game on a remote Pacific island where participants must kill others to collect eight chips for escape. Masked men subdued the angry group with tazers. Kiyoshi notes that Ryouta was the most vocal opponent and was tazed in the head, causing his memory loss. The plane arrived at the island, forcing everyone to parachute out. Ryouta suspects Tyrannos Japan created Btooom!. The two team up to survive. They spot a food drop; a woman is killed by a trap, but Ryouta and Kiyoshi pursue another parachute to secure supplies, fearing weakness. They find a bloodied boy who appears to have killed another player during the scramble.

Oct 25, 2012Police arrest fourteen-year-old Kōsuke Kira for murdering three women. In the present, Souichi Natsume finds Kōsuke torturing frogs and attempts to explain morality, but Kōsuke rejects this. They witness parachute drops and investigate with Kōsuke’s father, Yoshihisa Kira. Flashbacks reveal Yoshihisa abused Kōsuke as a child. Yoshihisa forces Kōsuke to retrieve a supply case using bombs, then refuses to share it, citing survival of the fittest. Kōsuke kills Yoshihisa with a bomb, experiencing euphoria. Souichi flees, calling Kōsuke a monster, and meets Ryouta and Kiyoshi. Kōsuke pursues them, forcing Ryouta to fight. Ryouta cannot kill but recognizes Kōsuke as a Btooom! player. After hitting his head, Ryouta perceives reality as the game, defeats Kōsuke using sonar cancelling, and binds him. Ryouta takes the supplies and BIMs. Kōsuke learns Ryouta is the top Japanese Btooom! player.

Nov 1, 2012Ryouta returns to Kiyoshi with food supplies and recalls his mother’s suicide attempt. A corpse, identified as a naked Mitsuo, floats downstream, prompting Ryouta to investigate upstream. He encounters Himiko on a cliff, who attacks with a corrosive-BIM. Ryouta attempts to reason with her, but she assaults him with a stun gun. He defends himself, causing her to stun herself. Ryouta takes her weapons and realizes she was assaulted by Mitsuo. He carries her back to camp, deactivating a hidden timer-BIM she feared would be used against her. Himiko reveals that everyone on the island was chosen by an acquaintance to disappear. Kiyoshi invites her to join them, but she refuses, noting there is nothing left to return to. Ryouta understands his family chose him for defiance. The group is then attacked by komodo dragons.

Nov 8, 2012Komodo dragons attack the group, causing Himiko to faint. Kiyoshi carries her across a river while Ryouta fights, realizing their BIMs require the owner's death to be claimed. A lizard bites Kiyoshi, and they flee downstream, separated when another lizard enters the water. Ryouta fails to locate Kiyoshi via radar, assuming abandonment. Kiyoshi returns to save them from an attack using a homing-BIM. They discover their sonars interfered with each other, leading Ryouta to break down over doubting Kiyoshi's loyalty. They reach an abandoned coastal building but are pursued again. Kiyoshi's homing-BIMs prove insufficient, so Ryouta uses a corrosive-BIM activated by Himiko's finger to repel the lizards. Himiko wakes up, remaining suspicious of the men. Meanwhile, Tyrannos Japan monitors the island, focusing on Ryouta. Kiyoshi's leg becomes infected. Ryouta suspects Himiko murdered previous participants due to her supplies. Finally, another player's sonar detects them, prompting Ryouta to act as a decoy. In the epilogue, Ryouta is attacked by Masashi.

Nov 15, 2012A flashback reveals Sakamoto’s rejected real-world meeting request with Himiko in the Btooom! world. Present-day Ryouta is ambushed by Souichi and Masashi, who steal his BIMS but allow him to escape to track Himiko and Kiyoshi. Masashi severely wounds Kiyoshi and dismisses Ryouta’s claims that Tyrannos Japan orchestrated the event to fix game bugs. Ryouta falls from a building, finds Himiko’s phone, and suspects she is his former game partner. He locates Himiko, who denies being the same person, and kills Souichi with a cracker-BIM. Masashi takes Himiko hostage, forcing a barehanded fight, but Ryouta is beaten. Himiko activates a corrosive-BIM, causing an explosion that allows them to flee. Masashi grabs Himiko’s leg, but Ryouta detonates a timer-BIM, killing Masashi. Tyrannos Japan executives observe the outcome.

Meanwhile, Tyrannos Japan’s CEO monitors the psychological warfare among players. At night, Himiko asks Ryouta why he saved her; he explains that his digital life in the game felt more real than reality, prompting him to rescue the Himiko he knew. Overcome with emotion, she cries, torn between revealing her true identity and her past trauma. They encounter Shiki Murasaki, a survivor who lost an arm to Masahito Date for chips. Shiki warns Himiko against trusting men and explains that six chips are needed for one person to leave, testing their loyalty. Ryouta plans to gather enough chips for a helicopter escape for all four, including Kiyoshi and Shiki. Despite trusting Ryouta, Himiko remains hesitant to confess who she is. Finally, Masahito is shown returning to the island to treat Kiyoshi’s wounds.

Nov 29, 2012Ryouta and Himiko find Kiyoshi healed by Masahito, who manipulates their trust to steal their chips later. When new food supplies arrive, Ryouta fights Nobutaka Oda, leading both to dive off a cliff. Meanwhile, Himiko battles Hidemi Kinoshita, who works with Nobutaka. Masahito attempts to kill them with a remote-controlled-BIM but fails, then pretends to save Himiko. She suspects his betrayal but remains silent, trusting only Ryouta. Ryouta resurfaces near a beach and witnesses Nobutaka’s booby trap kill another player. He threatens Nobutaka with a cracker-BIM, forcing him to drop his gear. Ryouta grows suspicious as Nobutaka approaches the equipment, triggering a hidden remote-controlled-BIM that seemingly kills him. However, Nobutaka’s radar shows Ryouta is still alive.

Dec 6, 2012Tyrannos Japan observes Ryouta and Nobutaka fighting, but Ryouta anticipates the strategy and retreats, abandoning food and BIMs. Nobutaka departs, revealing he knows Ryouta, which triggers a flashback for Ryouta. He realizes Nobutaka was his high school best friend until Nobutaka slept with Ryouta's crush. Later, Masahito decides to betray Ryouta. The group returns to the abandoned building where Shiki stays to find medicine for Kiyoshi. Masahito finds expired medicine, places it in a case, and gives it to Ryouta, who realizes Masashi was right about trusting people too easily. Ryouta signals Himiko, who runs back and shouts at him to drop the case. Just then, the case detonates, revealing Masahito had hidden a BIM inside it.

Dec 13, 2012Masahito's BIM detonation appears to kill Ryouta, causing Himiko to lose her will to fight until Shiki intervenes and wounds Masahito. Masahito utilizes building traps to lure them, having previously hidden a bomb in a case which Himiko deduced. He strikes Shiki with a bomb while Himiko regrets not telling Ryouta she is the Himiko he knew. Ryouta survives and uses a non-detonated cracker-BIM to chase Masahito into another trap. Masahito activates the device, but Ryouta moves it, injuring Masahito. Shiki appears to kill Masahito but alters her blade's path, stating she will never forgive him. Later, Himiko and Ryouta discuss Shiki's mercy. In the epilogue, they search for chips on corpses but find three missing. Ryouta suspects Kiyoshi, who turns against them as a homing-BIM approaches.
EP 12Kiyoshi's hallucinations lead to a tragic end involving Ryouta and Himiko
Dec 20, 2012Kiyoshi suffers hallucinations and attacks Ryouta with homing-type BIMs, injuring his leg. Ryouta blames himself but, with Himiko's help, evades the assault until Kiyoshi flees in panic. Pursuing him, Ryouta attempts an apology, but Kiyoshi, overwhelmed by guilt for betraying them, commits suicide using a BIM while surrounded by Kimodo dragons. Ryouta mourns his death as Himiko retrieves his chips, and they return to their hideout. There, Himiko asks Ryouta to kill her to facilitate his escape, but he refuses. Ryouta recognizes Himiko from Btooom!, leading to an intimate moment where he promises to date her properly upon returning home. Meanwhile, employees from Tyrannos Japan depart for the island due to reported mechanical issues, with Tsuneaki Ida silently apologizing to Ryouta, suggesting he may have assisted them.
