Oct 9, 2011Yukiteru Amano, a solitary boy who records his life in a cell phone diary, discovers the entries are predicting real events. Deus Ex Machina, the God of Time and Space, reveals the diary foretells Yukiteru's future and warns that its destruction means his death. Soon, Yuno Gasai, a stalker with her own Future Diary, approaches him. Her diary predicts Yukiteru will be killed by serial killer Takao Hiyama, another diary owner. Yuno assists Yukiteru in evading the Third and hitting Hiyama’s phone with a dart, causing the killer to vanish. Following this, Deus convenes a meeting with Yukiteru, Yuno, and nine other diary owners to explain the survival game rules. The participants must kill one another to succeed the god.

Keigo Kurusu the Fourth, a police officer with a crime-predicting diary, arrives as Minene's true target. He reveals his goal is merely to stop criminals, not play the survival game. Yuno, Keigo, and Yukki's classmates distract Minene, allowing Yukki to throw a dart at her diary. Minene dodges the attack, injuring her left eye, and escapes using her diary's ability. Following this confrontation, Keigo forms an alliance with Yukki and Yuno to stop the other diary owners.

The following day, Keigo, Yuki, and Yuno visit the Sacred Eye cult to see Minene, who is imprisoned there. Tsubaki Kasugano the Sixth, the cult leader and holder of the Clairvoyance Diary, expects to die by day’s end. Having survived death twice, Yuki agrees to stay with Tsubaki overnight in exchange for Minene’s release, angering Yuno. Later, Tsubaki’s followers fall under the mind control of Yomotsu Hirasaka, the Twelfth diary holder who captured Minene, and approach the group. Yuno attacks the controlled followers with an axe and forces Yuki to choose between joining her or dying.

Upon their return, they discover Aru standing before a room containing corpses, though the wall has been demolished and bodies buried in Yuno's garden. Yuno lacks memory of this event or her prior visit to the house. Aru theorizes that Yuno's fragile mental state caused her to modify her own memories as a defense mechanism. Meanwhile, Keigo frames Yuki and Yuno as suspects in the murder of Hinata's father.

Yuki questions Yuno about resurrecting people, and she admits to lying to console him, asking him to kill her. Yuki refuses and suggests dying together. When he mentions Aru's message about a second world where Yuno is a goddess, Yuno attacks him. Yuki flees and encounters Murmur, who shows him visions of the first world. There, Yuno and Yuki's alter ego planned a double suicide, but Yuno faked her death to revive him as a goddess. Unable to restore souls, she traveled back in time and killed her other self to take her place in this second world. Distraught by the death of the second Yuno, Yuki breaks from the vision to confront the first world's Yuno.

Apr 1, 2012Yuno declares her intent to kill Yuki and reset time due to their inability to coexist. Murmur attacks Yuki, but Minene intervenes, revealing she holds part of Deus's power to maintain game fairness. Yuno and Murmur travel two years into the past to a third world, with Minene and Yuki following. Minene explains that Deus suspected them of being from another timeline. Anticipating Yuno will kill her past self again, Yuki and Minene rush to her house. They find a third Yuno abused, caged, and choking on a mat. Yuki calls an ambulance despite Minene’s warnings about altering the past. Yuno and Murmur arrive with the third world's Yuki's parents as hostages, forcing Minene, Yuki, and the third Yuno to flee.
