Mrs. Brighton and Annie visit the Leagans, where Annie pretends not to know Candy or Klint. Neil and Eliza force Annie to ride Cleopatra, causing the horse to panic and blaming Candy. Candy chases Annie, stops the horse, and learns Annie is unhappy. After a confrontation with Neil, Eliza manipulates the situation to force a confession about Annie's past. Mrs. Brighton prevents Annie from speaking and suggests Candy apologize instead. Later, an old gardener finds Candy crying and shows her a ribbon Annie tied to the barn post, proving their friendship remains intact despite the recent conflict.
