Ep. 35: Candy and Mr. Brighton attend the Epsom horse races where a bet with Terry leads to a disputed result.

On the fifth Sunday of the month, students receive a day off if accompanied by an adult. The Cornwell brothers are upset that Candy was excluded from their outing and denied a gift. Annie and her mother visit the Ardley family, after which Candy goes to Other Pony's Hill with Klint. Terry is present, smoking and acting obnoxiously, which angers Candy as she claims the hill as her territory. Mr. Brighton, Annie's adoptive father, invites Candy to spend the day in town. He takes her to the horse races at Epsom, where they see Pony Flash, one of Tom's horses, competing. In the stables, Terry challenges Candy to a bet: if Pony Flash places in the top three, he will stop calling her Little Freckles, but if she loses, she must serve him. Pony Flash finishes fourth in a photo finish. Candy accepts the loss, but Terry claims it looked like third place from his vantage point. The day concludes with Mr. Brighton asking Candy to watch over Annie.
