Candy and Cookie attempt to board another vessel, but Captain Nieven halts the mission due to a storm warning. Chaos ensues as crew members secure crates; a snapped mooring causes crates to crush Cookie, breaking his leg. While the crew pumps water from a cargo hold breach, Candy tends to Cookie. Despairing over his injury, Cookie fears he will never become a sailor and attempts suicide. Candy struggles to hold him back until Captain Nieven intervenes, offering advice on true seafaring. Candy reflects that she lacks the professional passion of Terry and Cookie, merely plodding forward to prove her strength. Viva then interrupts to announce their imminent arrival in the US.
