Ep. 16: Light surrenders the Death Note to L to clear his name as Kira.
Aired on January 31, 2007

Light informs L that he suspects he is Kira and requests confinement. His father also agrees to be imprisoned to prevent emotional interference. During a monitored meeting, Light tells Ryuk he will give up the Death Note. After Light is jailed, Kira’s executions cease, raising L’s suspicion. Light then relinquishes the notebook, causing him to lose his memories of being Kira. This sudden shift from calm to desperate behavior confuses L. Shortly after, the killings resume, further puzzling the detective. The events create a complex situation where Light’s actions and the resumption of deaths challenge L’s understanding of the case.
