Mitamura visits a dying art collector while Dalem prepares to auction a stolen Vermeer painting for Leone. Scotland Yard Inspector Roger Warner poses as collector Mr Peters to trap Dalem. Meanwhile, Fujita and a disguised Mitamura meet in London to retrieve the artwork. Fujita proposes cooperation with Peters to suppress the bid price. They verify the painting is the original, damaged by forger Jacques van Meegeren, and Fujita offers $6 million despite its potential $100 million value. After Dalem is warned about Peters, Fujita shoots him with a fake gun. It is later revealed Fujita acted for the dying collector, who promised to donate the restored painting to a museum.
