Yang boards the Brunhilde to meet Reinhard, declining the Imperial Fleet Admiral role to retire quietly. The two discuss government and philosophy while the Treaty of Barlat ends hostilities, sparking unrest as blame shifts to former Chairman Trüniht. Admiral Lennenkanpt becomes Imperial consul of Heinessen. Meanwhile, Julian, Mashengo, and Boris Konev prepare for an Earth visit. On June 20, 799 S.C. / 490 I.C., the regent signs a declaration abdicating the young Empress’s throne to Reinhard. This marks the start of the New Empire and year 1 of the New Imperial Calendar (N.I.C.).
