Yang's fleet approaches the Brunhilde's firing range when Heinessen announces a ceasefire. During the Battle of Vermillion, Hildegard persuaded the Mittermeyer fleet to capture Heinessen, anticipating that Reinhard would have died before other fleets arrived. She also convinced Reuenthal to join the attack on Heinessen, despite her wariness of his ambitions. Trüniht intends to surrender, while other Alliance government members prefer to fight to the death. Armed Earth Cult members rescue Trüniht during the meeting. The Alliance's surrender divides Yang's staff; some wish to ignore orders and kill Reinhard, while others accept the ceasefire. It is decided that part of Yang's staff will escape with Admiral Merkatz to become pirates.
