Inside the warp, the 999 meets another version from a different time. Both Maetels land on the wandering planet Phantom, home to strange life-forms. They are released after proving they are human, but the Conductor is captured by a different creature. The captors intend to use the 999 to escape the planet. It is revealed that on this wandering world, cyborgs face persecution from the human population. This situation creates a dangerous conflict for the captured conductor and the stranded travelers as they navigate the hostile environment and the complex social dynamics between the persecuted cyborgs and their oppressors.
