On the planet Town without Night, the Perfect Sleep law prohibits going out after dark. Tetsuro is involved in a physical altercation with a group of men who are attempting to capture the monster Heron. The police intervene and take Tetsuro into custody. This detention causes him to fear that he will miss his scheduled departure on the 999. Just as his situation seems dire, Heron makes another appearance, altering the course of events.
