Inuyasha reaches the temple where his companions are incapacitated, detecting the odor of grave soil. Ginkotsu, thought to be defeated, reappears to divert Inuyasha’s attention. Renkotsu then ignites the temple and reveals his affiliation with the Band of Seven. Shippo attempts to warn the group about the encroaching flames but fails to gain their response. When Inuyasha finally locates his friends, Shippo delivers the tragic news that they have ceased breathing. This sequence highlights the sudden escalation of danger posed by the Band of Seven members as they execute their plan against the group.
