Inuyasha defeats Jakotsu using his restored Tetsusaiga powers. Renkotsu extracts a Shikon Jewel shard from Jakotsu's throat. Kikyo questions Saint Hakushin about his desires after being reborn by Naraku. Bankotsu learns of Renkotsu's motives and takes two Shikon Jewel shards from him. The two engage in a deadly duel to determine superior strength. Bankotsu wins and removes the final shard from Renkotsu's throat as payment for betrayal. Kikyo understands Saint Hakushin's situation, causing him to dissolve the barrier. She then provides solace to his spirit as it departs. This sequence resolves the conflicts involving the defeated bandits and the monk's spiritual unrest.
