Ep. 17: Southern Land Ceremony Secrets and Aoi's Transformation into Ai

Yodoko enjoys monjayaki while Hideyoshi scolds Aoi for cooking in a guest room. Hatori attributes Aoi’s arrival at Orio-ya to Ougan-douji and explains that a curse from the ocean Ayakashi Umi-bouzo causes frequent typhoons in the southern land. The ceremony to calm this entity requires Ranmaru and Ginji to gather five national treasures: the Rainbow Umbrella, Tengu Secret Alcohol, a mermaid's scale, Hourai's Gem Branch, and ocean food. Yodoko possesses the umbrella, Hatori seeks the alcohol from Matsuba, and Aoi’s seafood is the final item. Odanna reveals Aoi’s necklace is merging her spiritual power with his Ogre Fire to create a childlike Ayakashi follower named Ai. They ask Ai to clone Aoi to reach the harbor undetected. There, Aoi witnesses the devastation and the plight of orphaned fishermen. Odanna gives Aoi a rare rainbow clam shell from the Eternal Realm, noting the ceremony must occur at a forbidden island closest to that realm, just as an explosion rocks Orio-ya.
