Maximilien interrogates the imprisoned Durand regarding his loyalty following Louis's orders. Concurrently, Louis and Pompadour discover potential hostility from England. Guercy is urged to betray France, prompting King George to personally persuade him when initial offers fail. D'Eon and allies plan Durand's rescue, leading D'Eon to seek aid from Queen Mary, who agrees. However, D'Eon learns the real Mary died the previous year. Her younger sister used her body as a vessel for Mary's soul at Medmenham shortly after. George, Lia, Maximilien, Dashwood, and Saint-Germain witnessed this ceremony. Mary requests to speak with Lia, but D'Eon abruptly departs.
