Apr 7, 2005When Ritsuka is twelve, his brother Seimei dies. Soubi, claiming to be Seimei's friend, arrives and declares his love for Ritsuka. Two children of Ritsuka's age, known as the Breathless pair, attack them, but Soubi defeats them effortlessly. Soubi then reveals his true name is Loveless. This revelation triggers Ritsuka's memory of Seimei's true name, Beloved, which Seimei had whispered to him moments before his death. The encounter forces Ritsuka to confront the past and the hidden truths surrounding his brother's final moments and his own identity.

Apr 14, 2005Ritsuka accesses a hidden file on Seimei's computer by using his true name, Loveless, as the password. Inside, he finds photographs of himself and Seimei, along with a letter revealing that Seimei has bequeathed the Fighter role to Soubi. The text explains that Seimei and Soubi previously operated as a combat pair, with Seimei serving as the Sacrifice and Soubi as the Fighter, similar to the duo Breathless. Following Seimei's death, the letter instructs Ritsuka to replace his brother in the partnership, requiring him to take on the position of the new Sacrifice.

Ritsuka admits to himself that all he is thinking about is Soubi, and wonders what the true meaning of love is.

Apr 28, 2005Yuiko prepares strawberry jam for Ritsuka, but classmates bully her, causing the jar to fall from a window. Ritsuka defends her, angering Yayoi who sought credit for her own assistance. Frustrated by Soubi’s silence, Ritsuka commands him to photograph a nearly extinct mountain cat. Yuiko confesses her love for Ritsuka to a teacher, while the Breathless duo advises Ritsuka to separate from Soubi without revealing information about his brother. Ritsuka returns home to find Soubi waiting with several photos of the cat, while hints suggest Ritsuka’s mother is physically abusing him.

May 12, 2005Ritsuka's teacher attempts to visit her home for a parent-teacher conference but encounters Natsuo and Youji, a fighting duo from Septimal Moon known as Zero. After she reveals her full name, the boys use it to seize control of her. Soubi intervenes to rescue her, engaging Natsuo and Youji in combat despite his power being reduced to a quarter of its normal strength because Ritsuka is not present. Struggling against his shackled opponent, Soubi recalls a lesson from Fighter school, realizing that Zero is an artificial pair incapable of feeling pain.

May 19, 2005Soubi defeats Zero by summoning a snowstorm, exploiting the fact that their blood congeals faster than human blood. Ritsuka hears Soubi cry out in pain and searches for him. Upon finding Soubi, he lies about being fine and flees, but Ritsuka notices blood drops on the ground and realizes he is injured. Later, Soubi tends to the Zero pair because Seimei instructed him to finish things properly. He then receives a text message from Ritsuka demanding that he never lie to him again.

This punishment stems from Soubi’s failure to summon his Sacrifice to battle and Ritsuka’s explicit order forbidding Soubi from fighting without him present. Consequently, Soubi refuses to defend himself and is defeated. Concerned when Soubi does not answer his calls, Ritsuka searches for him and discovers Soubi by a river, severely wounded. Upon finding him, Soubi loses consciousness, leaving Ritsuka to deal with the aftermath of the encounter.

Natsuo and Youji assist Ritsuka while Zero reveals Soubi is not his true Fighter partner
Jun 2, 2005Natsuo and Youji arrive to help Ritsuka take Soubi home by taxi. During the ride, Ritsuka speaks with Zero and discovers that Soubi is not his true Fighter, despite their combined strength being legendary. Zero informs him that another Loveless Fighter exists who is his actual partner. Meanwhile, Kouya and Yamato appear with orders to defeat Soubi again, insisting that Ritsuka must accompany him. Natsuo and Youji volunteer to fight instead. The original pair, Kouya and Yamato, are furious at being replaced by this new Zero pair. In response to this replacement, they cast a total restriction spell on Youji, leaving both groups surprised by the existence of another pair.

Soubi easily defeats the Zero girls. Ritsuka stops Soubi from delivering the final blow. Kouya and Yamato decide to forfeit the battle. They choose to stop being Fighter and Sacrifice. After reaffirming their love for one another, they feel as if they have been reborn.

Jun 23, 2005Ritsuka, Yayoi, Yuiko, and their teacher attend a seaside fair, with Ritsuka explicitly forbidding Soubi from joining. Soubi and Kio secretly follow the group, leading Soubi to witness a scene that appears to be Ritsuka and Yuiko kissing, though it is actually nothing. Later, Kio speaks with Ritsuka, explaining that Soubi was always hurt by Seimei but found happiness and became a zombie after Seimei died. Kio expresses relief that Ritsuka is normal compared to Seimei and notes that Soubi has become human again after meeting Ritsuka.

Jun 30, 2005Ritsuka and Yuiko visit Yayoi’s home to play video games, where Ritsuka discovers a code resembling one from The Seven Moons that points to a specific location within the game. After hours of gameplay, he reaches the target area but is secretly drugged and falls asleep. The drugs induce terrifying dreams where Yayoi, Yuiko, Ritsuka’s mother, and teacher are brutally murdered. Soubi appears in the vision, claiming he killed them under orders and attempts to kill Ritsuka. Ritsuka’s strong will to live breaks the spell, allowing him to wake up and immediately seek out Soubi. When Ritsuka asks if Soubi would kill him if Seimei ordered it, Soubi replies he would die first. Nearby, a man hinted to be Seimei observes, wondering whether Ritsuka’s will or the fate of the name Loveless will prevail.
