At Gaston's grave, Lupin and Jigen meet Camille Bardot, an ex-investigator with photographic memory and Gaston's acquaintance. A phone call from Albert triggers an assassination attempt on the trio. Mortally wounded, Bardot explains he copied the black notebook to ensure justice against the perpetrators, but DGES director Guillaume hunted them ruthlessly for it. Lupin realizes Albert orchestrated the setup to seize the notebook. He returns to Paris to confront Albert. Despite his precautions, Albert shoots Lupin multiple times and successfully recovers the notebook, leaving Lupin defeated and the document in Albert's possession.
