Subsequently, Samura’s friend Katsumi Togane is found dead from poisoning at an Izakaya in Haido City. Authorities initially suspect Togane committed suicide after robbing Kume and murdering Samura, but the circumstances raise doubts about this conclusion. The Detective Boys become involved in unraveling the truth behind these interconnected crimes and the potential deception surrounding the official narrative.

Kogoro, Ran, and Conan investigate a stolen heirloom pot theft at a Shimonoseki pufferfish restaurant.

Kogoro, Ran, and Conan travel to Shimonoseki, Yamaguchi Prefecture, accompanied by lawyer Hiroki Oi. They meet Makoto Izumiya, the fourth generation owner of Izumiya, and his daughter Kaede, whose prized heirloom pot was stolen during a busy period. The pot is valuable for the unique umami flavor its skin imparts to the soup stock. Conan and the group interview four suspects: Yasushi Kobayashi, a former employee arrested two years ago; Shinichi Fujii, who failed to buy the business; Satoru Daiehara, a rival restaurant owner; and Keisuke Ban, a fired ex-employee. While Haibara visits an ATM branch to withdraw cash for a doctor, Kogoro’s card gets stuck in a machine. As he prepares to leave, he spots a suspicious man in a black suit. This man notices Haibara and displays a surprised expression, drawing attention to her presence at the location.

At Beika Gourmet Restaurant Street, Kogoro and Conan dine with Takashi Yamaura at his Italian bar, RESO. Hiroyuki Kusumi, the alley owner, destroys the wall to harass shop owners who rejected his demolition request, leading to deaths from exhaustion. With help from Fumio Nakano of Sakura-ya and Yuji Yonezawa of Seventy Seven, Kogoro makes Kusumi leave. Later, Conan uses a coin-operated toilet. Fifteen minutes later, Kogoro finds Kusumi dead inside, appearing to have fallen. Conan determines it is murder. Police investigate and identify Fumio as the only suspect without an alibi, prompting a search of her restaurant for the murder weapon.
