Naruto wakes from a dream about fighting Sasuke and finds himself under Yamato's supervision while learning Kakashi is pursuing Sakura. When Yamato forbids him from leaving despite claims that his teammates are returning to the Hidden Leaf, Naruto returns to bed and creates a Shadow Clone to cover his escape. He reflects on his history with Sasuke, realizing he failed to understand his rival's pain over losing everyone, including Jiraiya, despite others insisting Sasuke is a lost cause. Using Sage Mode to track Kakashi, Naruto recalls Jiraiya's ideals and Gaara's advice. He believes that seeing Sasuke will help him decide his next course of action.
