During Parents' Day, Shutarou's mother's ox-cart is crushed by Lum's mother's spaceship. Lum translates for the Mendo matriarch, but her poor skills cause misunderstandings. Later, Ataru snaps at Lum, who disappears leaving a handmade doll. Her absence stirs up trouble and devastates Ataru. Meanwhile, Lum is with her parents renewing her passport. Her father accidentally turns on a microphone hidden in the doll, allowing him to hear Ataru's true feelings.
