Kanna’s mother declares herself tainted, prompting an escape from the mountain that ends with her death at the hands of pursuing soldiers. Before dying, she entrusts Kanna with an ancient prayer. As pursuers close in, the group discusses settling by the ocean, though Kanna recognizes this as an impossible dream. She attempts to fly, but monks curse her, leading to her death by soldiers. Ryūya and Uraha discover the truth behind the curse and Kanna’s tragic fate. Determined to end the suffering, they vow to have a child capable of breaking the ancient curse.
