Hayakawa threatens Bai Lan but learns he has leukemia, leading them to confess their love before he gives her a ring. Xin Hong attempts to enter the burning building but is restrained by Ryo and Xiang Ying, who insist only Bai Lan can save herself. The group eventually rescues Bai Lan from the flames. Although Ryo reports her death, Bai Lan actually travels to Palawan in the Philippines, a favorite location of Hayakawa, to work as an elementary schoolteacher. Two months later, Xin Hong receives a letter from Bai Lan expressing her happiness and hoping he finds joy with Xiang Ying.
