EP 25Light’s Silent Victory After Rem Eliminates L and Watari
Apr 4, 2007L questions Rem regarding Death Notes, but she withholds details to protect Light and Misa. Misa starts using her notebook to execute criminals, prompting Light to deny her involvement while L grows suspicious. Rem recognizes that Light intentionally endangered Misa to force her sacrifice. Later, L discusses his isolation and the prevalence of lies with Light on the headquarters roof. He announces plans to test the thirteen day rule, which currently protects Misa. Before the test occurs, Rem kills Watari and L, sacrificing herself. Light secretly retrieves Rem’s notebook and celebrates his triumph in silence.

The investigation team designates Light as L’s successor and conceals L's death from the public. Light adapts to his inherited status while resuming his activities as Kira. The narrative advances five years to 2012, showing Light, now twenty-three, joining the National Police Agency of Japan. In a flashback to shortly after L's death, an elderly man receives an automatic notification on L's computer regarding L's fate. This man subsequently discloses the information to two children, connecting the past events to the present timeline.
EP 27Mello kidnaps NPA director and targets Sayu while Near forms SPK with FBI and US President
Apr 18, 2007Roger Ruvie tells Mello and Near that L has died. Mello leaves the orphanage to hunt Kira with American Mafia support, while Near partners with the US President and FBI agent Steve Mason to create the Special Provision for Kira. Mello abducts the NPA director, demanding the Death Note held by Light’s task force. Light executes the director upon learning of the kidnapping. Mello then targets Light’s sister, Sayu. During the investigation team’s efforts to rescue her, Near calls to reveal he knows about L’s death and that someone tried to replace him.
EP 28Near proposes cooperation with Light to save Sayu after Soichiro is stranded in the desert.
Apr 25, 2007Near suggests that he and Light cooperate to rescue Sayu. Soichiro takes the Death Note to the exchange point chosen by the kidnappers in Los Angeles, but Mello's men hijack the plane he is on and drop him off in the middle of the desert. Light monitors his father via satellite, until he enters an underground facility. There, Soichiro exchanges the Death Note for Sayu. Most of the SPK members die soon after Mello grabs hold of the Death Note. Near then proposes to Light that the two cooperate completely in the future and shares his suspicions that Mello is behind these deaths and is playing a game to see who can catch Kira faster. Meanwhile, in the shinigami realm, a shinigami named Sidoh tells another, Armonia Justin, that he lost his Death Note. Justin informs him that it was stolen by Ryuk and dropped in the human world. He advises Sidoh to go retrieve it.
EP 29Light trades Death Note ownership to Misa, leading to a raid where Soichiro confronts Mello before dying.
May 2, 2007Light manipulates Mello’s mafia into mailing their hideout address using the Death Note, which Sidoh spots and pursues. Light then informs Ryuk that he will relinquish his Death Note ownership to borrow Misa’s. The following day, Misa, impersonating Kira, contacts the investigation team to surrender her Death Note. She reveals that most of Mello’s mafia members will die on November 10, suggesting this as the optimal time to locate the stolen notebook. Upon receiving the second Death Note, Soichiro makes a deal with Ryuk to gain the shinigami eyes. On the specified date, the team raids Mello’s facility. Soichiro encounters Mello and reads his true name, Mihael Keehl. However, before he can write the name in the recovered Death Note, Soichiro is shot. Mello escapes using explosives, and Soichiro dies in a hospital, comforted by the knowledge that his son Light cannot be Kira because he can see Light’s lifespan. Light subsequently returns Sidoh’s lost Death Note to him.

May 9, 2007The US President declares neutrality toward Kira on Sakura TV. A scarred Mello holds SPK agent Halle Lidner hostage to enter Near’s headquarters, demanding a photo to ensure his safety from Kira. Mello reveals shinigami existence and claims some Death Note rules are false. Near, already suspicious of Light, suggests testing the thirteen-day rule, but the team refuses. Light contacts the US President, threatening his life to learn the SPK’s location. Meanwhile, Hitoshi Demegawa travels to America as Kira’s messenger, broadcasting a worldwide message urging people to raid the SPK’s new headquarters.
EP 31Demegawa orders SPK headquarters breach while Light directs Mikami to kill the TV host
May 16, 2007Demegawa orders Kira's followers to attack the SPK headquarters in New York, prompting Misa to wait for an opportunity to kill Near. Near suspects Light is Kira and helps SPK members escape by dropping money from windows. Light emails Misa with a new plan as Aizawa provides Near with information linking Light to the case. Aizawa also requests resumed surveillance on Light and Misa to clear their names, which Light accepts. Meanwhile, Demegawa asks for donations to build a temple, leading Light to have Teru Mikami, the new Death Note owner, kill the television host. Back at headquarters, Aizawa realizes that observing both Light and Misa means the recent killings cannot be attributed to either of them.

May 23, 2007Teru Mikami, driven by childhood tragedy, believes he is God’s instrument against evil. When criminals begin dying, he views this as righteous judgment and appears on "Kira's Kingdom." After receiving a Death Note from Light, Mikami eagerly executes criminals on Light’s behalf. Light selects Kiyomi Takada, a former college girlfriend, as the new spokesperson. He arranges a meeting with Takada to aid the investigation, during which Mikami calls her. Light reveals himself as Kira to Mikami and devises a scheme to force investigators to remove listening devices. He then tells Takada he wants her as his goddess in the new world. Light informs the investigation team he will pose as Takada’s boyfriend to catch Kira. Meanwhile, Mello observes Misa, suspecting she is the second Kira.

Upon learning of this outcome, Light employs a separate piece of the Death Note under his control to compel Takada to take her own life, thereby eliminating the witness and resolving the immediate crisis through lethal manipulation.

Light suppresses his excitement, believing he anticipated Near’s actions and arranged for Takada to retain the authentic Death Note while swapping Mikami’s copy for a forgery. As the countdown to the notebook’s power activation proceeds, Light declares his victory to Near, confident in his superior preparation and the outcome of their confrontation.

Jun 27, 2007Mikami's Death Note fails to work, prompting Near to confess he knew about the fake notebook and tampered with the real one. As Mikami is restrained, Light breaks down, laughs maniacally, and confesses he is Kira. He attempts to write names on a piece of the Death Note hidden in his watch, but Matsuda shoots him to stop him. Seeing Light writhe in agony, Mikami commits suicide. Light escapes wounded amidst the commotion and reflects on past events through flashbacks. True to his promise, Ryuk writes down Light's name, finding the experience entertaining. Misa stands atop a skyscraper while Light dies of cardiac arrest on a set of stairs, seeing L's figure before him.
