Jul 2, 2003A dangerous expedition enters the Core as a Ghoul materializes while the Quantum Barrier remains under repair. Prim requests a final physical from Misaki, but her brainwaves instead synchronize with an unknown artificial intelligence system. She appears to enter her Rampart Armor alongside Kiri, Kotoko, and Lyar, who alters the battle plan. Three pilots are dispatched, but Misaki remains unresponsive while Prim investigates. During the ensuing combat, Kotoko is destroyed though her mind survives, and Lyar and Kiri are disabled. Misaki eventually joins the fight to rescue them but is captured. Facing death, she panics and transforms into a Ghoul-like entity, grappling with the enemy until both are annihilated in a burst of light. On the ship, Prim and Jean-Luc monitor the exhausted, wire-connected Misaki in a chamber.

After removing Misaki from the Core, Lyar swears her to secrecy regarding the presence of the enemy mechas.

During a tour of the residential area, Misaki finds a young mute girl drawing a life-sized Ghoul mural in an alley, noting her trauma from a past incident. Simultaneously, a Ghoul materializes within the Core. Although contained, it projects a Specular Image that attacks both Misaki and the girl. Misaki nearly transforms again but is stopped by the girl's screams. The Quantum Barrier forces the Ghoul away. Lyar and Kotoko manage the cleanup, remove the girl, and once again swear Misaki to secrecy regarding the incident.

The vessel loses power and is disabled, prompting Lyar to order an immediate evacuation. The Ghoul attacks, wounding Luxandra and Bernard, grazing Suzanna, and decapitating Kotoko. Following a panic attack and transformation, Misaki faces a standoff with the creature until the Barrier repels it. Bernard secretly attaches his PDA to Kotoko's severed head to download data.

Core mechas attack, and Misaki fights them in an R.A. before falling off the edge. Bernard downloads the data and departs without her. Inside the Core, Misaki finds the enemy mechas contain dead pilots. She senses her father calling to her but cannot determine the source of the signal.

Aug 20, 2003Lyar dives into the core to save Misaki from the Necromancer army. Bernard returns with legal immunity, leading to Misaki’s release. Lyar expands the pilot program to include three cadets. LeBlanc confronts Bernard, who reveals Alchemy’s plan to continue the Kessler Project, prompting LeBlanc to shoot him. He then tests Misaki by showing her a ship of corpses and a Ghoul in stasis. Misaki communicates with the Ghoul and feels her father’s call. Despite Lyar’s protests, LeBlanc wipes Misaki’s memory of the event to maintain secrecy.

She shoots the screen, flees, and steals a ship. Lyar smuggles Kiri and Luxandra aboard to console Misaki, disguises the incident as an emergency test, and the three finally celebrate their promotion.

Sep 3, 2003An alarm alerts personnel to a GHOUL, causing mass evacuation. Luxandra escapes into a rampart carrier, but Kiri arrives too late. Le Blanc sabotages laser posts and fail-safes using data from Bernard. Misaki doubts herself, recalling promotions with her team. Luxandra’s words about hard work haunt Misaki. Kiri comforts her, calling Luxandra tough. The GHOUL attacks the core, destroying parts of Watcher's Nest and damaging Lyar Von Ertiana’s rampart. Lyar loses contact with all but Kiri, ordering them to accelerate. Luxandra wakes unconscious on the core surface. The GHOUL approaches her armor, breaks in, and eats her alive. Blood splatters on a group photo, obscuring Luxandra. Misaki, in a holding bay, sees the GHOUL via Specular. She witnesses Luxandra’s murder. As the GHOUL attacks the RA, enraged Misaki, in near GHOUL form, catches its punch, turns it to stone, and kills it. Lyar and Kiri find the petrified GHOUL. Misaki recovers in the infirmary, receiving a final encouraging message from Luxandra’s spirit.
