Bernard arrives from Earth with Lyar as his escort, though she evades his inquiries and Misaki conceals classified information. Later, Bernard, Kotoko, and cadets undertake a training mission to the Core, where a Ghoul appears with unusually little warning. The vessel loses power and is disabled, prompting Lyar to order an immediate evacuation. The Ghoul attacks, wounding Luxandra and Bernard, grazing Suzanna, and decapitating Kotoko. Following a panic attack and transformation, Misaki faces a standoff with the creature until the Barrier repels it. Bernard secretly attaches his PDA to Kotoko's severed head to download data.
