On the day before Valentine's Day, Nagi skips school to make chocolate for Hayate but fails. At Hakuou, Ayumu attempts to give Hayate love chocolate but accidentally provides obligation chocolate instead. Hinagiku notices Ayumu's panic and advises Hayate to exchange the gift. Confused by the concept of love after receiving the chocolate, Hayate seeks help from Maria. Maria, who also lacks romantic experience, becomes dejected but decides to make chocolate for Hayate. Nagi asks Hayate to make chocolate for her after her own failure. Maria creates an outrageous chocolate but runs away embarrassed when asked about the recipient. Hayate catches her, giving her chocolate he made and explaining that Valentine's Day is when people work hard to see their treasured person smile. Ayumu thanks Hinagiku for her assistance, leading Hinagiku to assume Ayumu and Hayate are now a couple.
