Fifty years in the future, brain scanning technology allows the government to extract up to five years of memories from individuals, including the deceased. A team of investigators at the National Research Institute of Police Science's 9th Forensics Laboratory uses this technology to assist in criminal investigations. As they access the innermost thoughts and experiences of others, they face difficult ethical dilemmas regarding privacy and the limits of such invasive procedures.
