Oct 14, 1999Shuzo Matsutani suffers a defeat in a kendo match due to defensive flaws. While walking, he encounters Lala-Ru observing the sunset from a smokestack. Their conversation is interrupted when time freezes and a green beam envelops the area. Officers operating snakelike machines capture Lala-Ru and transport her to the stationary battleship Hellywood. Shu is inadvertently pulled along with her. Pursued by soldiers, the pair becomes separated at an operating bridge within a water tower. Shu retrieves Lala-Ru's pendant before falling into a tunnel that leads to the exterior. He emerges into a barren wasteland, leaving the battleship behind.

Oct 21, 1999Lala-Ru is brought before Abelia, who notices her missing pendant and suspects Shu possesses it. Nabuca confronts Shu on a bridge above a furnace, but the pendant falls into the abyss during their struggle. Shu disarms Nabuca by holding his knife and rescues him when the structure collapses. Subsequently, Shu is arrested and presented to an angry Hamdo, who demands information about the pendant. It is revealed that Lala-Ru can manipulate the water source within the pendant, a capability essential for rebuilding a battleship. Hamdo commands Abelia to use any means necessary to torture Shu into revealing its location.

Meanwhile, Abelia presents the silent Lala-Ru to Hamdo, who is frustrated by her refusal to speak. Following this failed interrogation, Abelia sentences Shu to hang. As an enemy battleship nears Hellywood, a missile launched from the rig strikes its target, signaling a warning against future aggression. Subsequently, Hamdo commands Abelia to deploy all male soldiers to search the entire tower for a missing pendant.

It is disclosed that all soldiers were abducted from their hometowns and transported to Hellywood for unknown reasons, with release contingent upon the war's conclusion. An impatient Tabool beats Shu to extract information about the pendant's location but is subsequently caught by Nabuca. Although Nabuca orders Tabool to be whipped as punishment, Shu declines to administer the lashes. Nabuca later warns Shu against fleeing, noting that other crew members would kill him if he attempted to escape.

Nov 11, 1999Shu and Nabuca engage in a mock duel using a wooden stick and a sharp knife, but the contest concludes because of Shu's reckless combat approach. Subsequently, two unidentified intruders board the battleship to assassinate Hamdo. Hamdo successfully shoots one attacker, but the other escapes by using Boo as a hostage to stop Nabuca from firing. Shu intervenes to attack the assailant, allowing Boo to break free and stab the attacker's hand. This enables Nabuca to shoot the intruder in the chest. Shu is deeply troubled by witnessing Nabuca execute the attacker with a headshot. Following this incident, all troops are ordered to traverse a sandstorm to recruit additional women and children from a nearby village.

Shu defies orders to free the captives, prompting Nabuca to shoot him in the leg to stop his interference. During the return journey to the fortress, Nabuca experiences guilt and empathy for his role in seizing innocent victims.

With Boo's assistance, he breaks out of prison and evades male soldiers. Shu finds Lala-Ru with Hamdo in a greenhouse, shattering glass to return the pendant, but Abelia shoots him in the arm. Lala-Ru activates her powers via the pendant, flooding the fortress with water to facilitate their escape. While hiding in a cavern, Shu is discovered by Nabuca. Shu urges Nabuca to join him to prevent further bloodshed, but Nabuca declines. However, he allows Shu to escape to repay a past debt of being saved by him.

Dec 2, 1999An unidentified individual discovers Sara buried in the desert and transports her to a nearby village. Meanwhile, speculation arises that Hellywood might be powered by utilizing available water as fuel. Nabuca and Boo are tasked with maintaining secrecy regarding the location of Shu and Lala-Ru. The pair travels on a motorcycle, but their vehicle becomes stuck in quicksand. Shu defends Lala-Ru from a carnivorous plant that has ensnared her with red vines. It is disclosed that Lala-Ru grows weaker each time she utilizes her pendant, and her abilities are often taken for granted when required on demand. Shu eliminates the plant using grenades retrieved from a backpack left beside a corpse. As they resume their journey, Shu tells Lala-Ru that not everyone in the world is evil.

Dec 9, 1999Shu and Lala-Ru reach the village of Zari-Bars and meet Sis, who operates an orphanage. To prevent complications, Shu must hide Lala-Ru's true identity from Sis. She permits them to stay in exchange for laboring in the fields alongside the other children. That night, Soon expresses longing for her father, unaware he was an assailant killed in Hellywood. Additionally, Elamba reveals to Shu that the Hellywood army murdered his entire family, explaining his desire to assassinate Hamdo. Overwhelmed by this information, Shu becomes perplexed and begins to cry when Lala-Ru visits him.

Dec 16, 1999Shu and Soon walk to a head spring to retrieve water for Sis. Elamba, already over there, continues to persist on persuading Shu to help his faction in an attempt to kill Hamdo. An injured soldier, claiming to have deserted Hellywood, is taken into the village to be treated for his wound. However, this is just a ruse for Hamdo to find the location of Zari-Bars without any sign of suspicion. Hellywood prepares to launch using water as its source of energy. The nozzles first fail to respond, but Abelia manages to fix the problem in order to prevent the battleship from toppling over. At night, Sara, revealed to be staying at the village, goes into a fit of rage when she sees Lala-Ru right in front of her.

A faction member informs Elamba that Zari-Bars holds a secret weapon capable of destroying Hellywood. Sis describes the ancient Lala-Ru as a lonely child. Despair drives Sara to attempt suicide at the head spring, but Shu painfully intervenes to save her. The following morning, Shu and Lala-Ru prepare to depart Zari-Bars. Elamba intends to use Lala-Ru as collateral to negotiate with Hellywood. A soldier spy fails to persuade Sara to flee the village before Hellywood invades.

Lala-Ru drowns a faction member threatening them, allowing escape as Hamdo destroys Zari-Bars with Hellywood. Sis nears death under Sara's watch while Shu and Soon seek shelter with Nabuca and Boo. Nabuca advises Shu that killing is necessary for survival. Soon discovers Nabuca killed her father and attempts revenge. Boo intercepts the bullet, taking the hit. Nabuca retaliates by killing Soon in response to the attack.

Jan 20, 2000Hamdo forces Lala-Ru to refuel the battleship, but she refuses. Nabuca learns Hamdo betrayed him and is shot by Tabool, dying while entrusting his stick to Shu for escape. Sis tells Sara to accept her unborn child before passing. Shu frees the children and rescues Lala-Ru, who overflows the battleship core with water powers. Sara saves the children with the spy soldier's life. Hamdo drowns as Abelia ignores him. Lala-Ru vanishes in Shu's arms at sunset. Sara stays with the children, while Abelia sends Shu back to his world, where he sees a sunset behind smokestacks.
