EP 1Junk Dog Challenges Yukiko Shirato and Bodyguard Yūri for a Real Fight
Apr 6, 2018Junk Dog, a Megalo Boxer in fixed matches under Gansaku Nanbu, seeks genuine combat. After nearly hitting Yukiko Shirato of the Shirato Group with his motorcycle, he refuses reimbursement and criticizes the Megalonia tournament. Offended, bodyguard Yūri provokes Junk Dog, who eagerly accepts the challenge despite Yukiko’s intervention. Later, Yūri unexpectedly enters the ring during Junk Dog’s scheduled bout, shocking the crowd as the reigning Megalo Box champion. Nanbu attempts to intervene but is punched out by Junk Dog, who insists on fighting Yūri using only his own abilities to prove his worth in a true match.
EP 2Junk Dog Defies Nanbu to Enter Megalonia With Forged ID as Joe
Apr 13, 2018Nanbu cannot prevent the underground match between Junk Dog and Yuuri, who initially fights with one hand before being forced to use both. Junk Dog knocks Yuuri out in the first round, but Yuuri insists he must qualify for a proper Megalonia tournament to fight again. Inspired by a billboard promoting District life, Junk Dog challenges Nanbu, defeating his opponent with full strength despite being ordered to lose. This defiance angers mob boss Fujimaki, who runs the ring. Nanbu negotiates a deal, promising future earnings from Junk Dog’s Megalonia victory to settle the debt. Fujimaki agrees and provides a forged citizenship ID, allowing Junk Dog to enter the tournament under the alias Joe.
EP 3Nanbu enters Joe into the rankings while they secure gear and face a prototype theft incident.
Apr 20, 2018Nanbu places Joe in the Megalo Box rankings at 257th, aiming for the top bracket in five fights. They visit Goskino Factory for equipment, where a boy named Sachio and friends trade stolen cameras for Red Candy. When the drug supply proves insufficient, Sachio attacks the shopkeeper, prompting Joe to intervene. He is thrown out by Potemkin Higashi, a former Megalo Boxer. Nanbu arranges for Joe to fight the 185th ranked Shark Samejima, and training begins. Sachio interrupts, begging to go to Megalonia. After being refused, he steals a Shirato Group Composite Titanium Prototype Gear from Goskino but is caught. Joe, Nanbu, and other children rescue him. Joe attempts to fight Higashi using the Prototype, but it breaks. Surprisingly, Joe defeats Higashi without it. Consequently, Joe and Nanbu decide to take Sachio with them.
EP 4Gearless Joe defeats Shark Samejima and climbs to rank 102 before facing a mysterious past rival.
Apr 27, 2018Joe makes his professional debut against Shark Samejima, intentionally fighting without gear as part of Nanbu’s strategy to gain attention. Although knocked down early, he survives the first round and endures a foul from an angry Shark in the second. After a break where Sachio helps them refocus, Joe utilizes his footwork to secure a knockout victory in the third round. Joe subsequently wins two more matches, rising to rank 102 and attracting the notice of Yukiko. Nanbu then arranges a match against the rank 17 opponent, only to discover the challenger is an old acquaintance bearing a half-burned face from his past.
EP 5Nanbu confronts his presumed-dead student Aragaki, who seeks revenge against Joe for his war injuries and lost gym.
May 4, 2018Nanbu learns that Aragaki, his former student, survived a war explosion that cost him his legs and was declared missing in action. Aragaki demands Nanbu pay for his losses by having Joe defeat him, causing Nanbu anxiety while Joe refuses to cancel the match. Research reveals Aragaki has left opponents in critical condition since returning to Megalo Boxing three years ago. Flashbacks show Aragaki attempted suicide after the war and felt betrayed when Nanbu closed the gym, despite promises it was his home. The bout starts with Aragaki knocking Joe down with a single punch, pushing the referee count toward ten.
EP 6Joe fights Aragaki while Nanbu reconciles with him before Megalonia announcements
May 11, 2018Joe rises at the 9th count to continue battling Aragaki, stopping Nanbu from surrendering by applying Nanbu’s weight distribution technique. Aragaki recognizes the move, triggering memories of his time under Nanbu, which causes him to break down emotionally before Joe lands a near-knockout punch. The bout proceeds through the fourth round with heavy exchanges but ends via forfeit before the fifth round begins. In the locker room, Nanbu reconciles with Aragaki, who reveals that leg implant damage may leave him bedridden, marking his final Megalo Boxing match. Aragaki returns a failed betting slip that Nanbu had given him as a charm to prevent suicide, instructing Nanbu to pass it to Joe. Yukiko publicly announces Glen Burroughs as the 3rd card for Megalonia, while Mikio Shirato informs Yūri that the public favors Gearless Joe and that he has a plan to stop Joe from reaching the tournament.
EP 7Mikio exposes Joe's illegal status and vows to seize control of the Shirato Group from Yukiko.
May 18, 2018Joe’s rising popularity does little to improve his chances of selection for Megalonia. Mikio defeats Sugar R. Hill and announces his intention to challenge Joe. The Shirato Group’s executive committee pressures Yukiko to include Mikio, but she opposes his advancement. Mikio confronts Yukiko, accusing her of rigging his match against Sugar and planning to pit him against Joe to eliminate him. Before the scheduled bout, Mikio meets Joe and reveals knowledge of his illegal underground fighting and fake identification, threatening public exposure if Joe enters the ring. Joe attempts to strike Mikio but is knocked unconscious by Nanbu. Joe fails to appear, resulting in a default victory for Mikio, who then declares his plan to reclaim the Shirato Group from Yukiko.
EP 8Nanbu seeks leverage on Mikio while Joe crashes the Megalonia finalist ceremony to demand a fair fight.
May 25, 2018Following Mikio’s forfeit victory, the Shirato Group prepares to name him the final Megalonia finalist. Nanbu, suspecting Mikio is hiding Joe’s secret, interrogates Fujimaki and learns that Mikio previously bluffed him with incomplete information. Nanbu then questions a former Gear engineer, discovering that Mikio attempted to build a device to read opponents’ Gear, specifically targeting the technology Yūri now uses. Believing this gives Joe a fighting chance, Nanbu tries to convince Yukiko to order a rematch. Yukiko, however, finds his behavior suspicious and confines him to a room. During the ceremony introducing the final four fighters, Joe arrives on his motorcycle and demands a fair duel with Mikio. In response, Yukiko tears the last Megalonia ticket in half, awarding one piece to each fighter and declaring that the winner of their immediate rematch will secure the final spot.
EP 9Mikio fights Joe in a rematch with upgraded gear, but Joe wins via counter-punch to reach Megalonia.
Jun 1, 2018Mikio dominates Joe in their official rematch using his significantly upgraded gear, Ace, which has been programmed to counter Joe's moves within seconds. Yūri observes that Mikio enhanced his synchronization with Ace through drug use, raising doubts about whether the boxing prowess belongs to Mikio or the equipment. When Joe’s standard combinations fail, he drops his guard, confusing Ace’s programming and preventing Mikio from securing a knockout. Joe then risks everything on a counter-punch. Although Nanbu anticipates a right straight from Mikio, he throws a left instead. Joe instinctively counters with an uppercut, knocking out Mikio and earning his spot in Megalonia. While Team Nowhere celebrates at their boat, Nanbu leaves the post-fight party to meet with Fujimaki.
EP 10Nanbu reveals the true bet to Joe, who rejects the match-fixing order and flees.
Jun 8, 2018Nanbu informs Joe that the actual wager involves reaching the semifinals of Megalonia and intentionally losing. Joe, furious at Nanbu’s desire to sacrifice the match for safety, punches him and rides away on his bike. Sachio overhears this conflict and feels betrayed by Nanbu, leading him to run off. Fujimaki threatens Nanbu, stating he will kill all three if Joe refuses to throw the fight. Nanbu later confronts Sachio, revealing knowledge of his father’s past: he designed Yūri’s prototype Gear, but the Shirato group stole the research and his father subsequently died. Nanbu offers Sachio revenge at Yukiko’s mansion, but Sachio cannot act. Consequently, Nanbu persuades Yukiko to take custody of Sachio to protect him from Fujimaki. That night, Yukiko investigates Sachio’s father’s history while Yūri defeats Pepe Iglesias to advance to the final round. Joe rises and knocks out Burroughs with a counterpunch. In the luxury suite, Nanbu fights Fujimaki's men and stabs out his own remaining eye as payment. Fujimaki, impressed by the display, allows Nanbu, Joe, and Sachio to leave. The trio reunites after the victory, having escaped Fujimaki's control through Nanbu's drastic sacrifice and Joe's unexpected win.
EP 12Yuri Removes His Gear to Fight Joe Fairly While Nanbu Trains Him
Jun 22, 2018Yukiko secures a military contract for Gear development but is stunned when Yuri chooses to have his own Gear surgically removed. He aims to fight Joe on equal footing without mechanical assistance. A newly-blind Nanbu recruits Aragaki to help train Joe, utilizing his enhanced hearing to critique Joe's form. Yuri undergoes the procedure at Mikio’s cabin and endures the pain without anesthesia, rejecting Yukiko’s offer of help. Yukiko later discovers Joe’s ID badge is fake, which would normally disqualify him from the tournament. However, she decides not to stop the match, choosing instead to visit Joe by the riverbank. She admits she knows about the fake ID but cannot comprehend Yuri’s drastic motivation to fight him without his Gear, leaving the outcome uncertain.
EP 13Joe and Yuri fight in the finals of Megalonia without Gear, leading to a dramatic conclusion and a time skip.
Jun 29, 2018Joe and Yuri face off in the finals of Megalonia, with Yuri removing his Gear to ensure equal terms. While Yukiko resists military clients wanting to weaponize her Gear, the fight intensifies. Despite surgery recovery draining his stamina, Yuri matches Joe blow-for-blow until he struggles to drink water after 12 rounds. In the 13th round, both bet everything on a final punch. The narrative then jumps one year forward to Nanbu’s new boxing gym, "Gym Nowhere," as the next Megalonia tournament approaches with the title vacant. Yuri is seen in a wheelchair, and Joe visits the gym by bike to deliver packages. The ending confirms that "Gearless" Joe won the championship by K.O. a year ago.
