Aoshi continues his struggle against Shishio, failing to secure victory even after executing the Kaiten Kenbu Rokuren technique. As time elapses, Kenshin regains consciousness through his swordsman spirit, surviving the severe wounds inflicted by Shishio. Just as Shishio prepares to deliver a final Guren Kaina blow, Kenshin recalls his promise to Kaoru to return to Tokyo together. This resolve allows him to launch the Kuzu-ryusen attack from the Hiten Mitsurugi-ryuu style, wounding Shishio. However, Shishio rises again, sustained by his own swordsman spirit. Despite his exhaustion and injuries, Kenshin readies his ultimate battōjutsu technique, the Amakakeru Ryuu no Hirameki, to end the confrontation.
