Spring arrives as Chagum matures, receiving new attire and a sword. He, Balsa, Tanda, and Torogai travel to Aoike Pond, where they reunite with Shuga and the hunters. Shuga reveals that the Egg Eater is vulnerable to fire. Influenced by the water spirit’s power, Chagum walks into the pond and consumes a sig salua resembling a lotus flower. The Egg Eater then appears to seize the egg, but the hunters repel it using fire torches. Despite the creature's attempt to devour Chagum, the water spirit’s egg shields him. Chagum subsequently flees uphill as the threat persists, marking a critical moment in his connection to the spirit.
