A timid middle school student, Aichi Sendo, lives a quiet life, avoiding attention. A card called "Blaster Blade," given to him in childhood, becomes a turning point when he begins playing the card game Vanguard. The game, set on a distant planet named Cray, uses a unique play system that gains global popularity. Aichi is drawn to the game and meets friends like Misaki Tokura and Kamui Katsuragi, as well as other opponents. Through these interactions, he starts to enjoy a more active and meaningful life. Aichi's main goal is to face Kai Toshiki, a skilled and aloof high school player who inspired him to play. Toshiki is the one who introduced Aichi to Vanguard and helped him escape his dull existence. Aichi trains diligently to improve, hoping one day to challenge Toshiki and earn his recognition.
