Timid Aichi Sendou possesses the rare Blaster Blade card, attracting the attention of Katsumi Morikawa, who seeks revenge on Toshiki Kai. After Morikawa and Yuuta Izaki steal the card, Aichi discovers it was lost in a bet against Kai. The two boys then duel with Blaster Blade as the prize. Kai initially returns the card to help complete Aichi's deck. During the match, Kai instructs Aichi on the game's rules. Aichi realizes he previously summoned Kai's ace, Blaster Blade, which Kai gave him long ago, revealing that this gift inspired Aichi to start playing Vanguard.

The shop manager, Shin Nitta, introduces Emi to trading card games, allowing her to witness a match between Aichi and Morikawa. Aichi wins the battle without taking any damage. Observing her brother’s enthusiasm and growth through the game, Emi realizes how much Vanguard has positively changed him. Consequently, she abandons her concerns and becomes supportive of Aichi’s involvement in the hobby.
EP 4Shin introduces Misaki to cardfighting, leading to her surprising victory over Aichi using a special deck.

During the Vanguard battle, Kamui utilizes Brutal Jack and King of Sword to inflict heavy damage, eventually defeating Aichi with Asura Kaiser. Emi arrives, revealing she and Aichi are siblings. Misinterpreting Aichi’s single Grade 3 card as a sign of future danger, Kamui begins calling him “big brother” to get closer to Emi, much to Aichi’s dismay.

Feb 12, 2011Aichi and his friends visit a different card shop named PSY. They are greeted by a girl named Rekka and try the shop's special Vanguard Fight Stage. The stage reacts strangely to Aichi, prompting a woman named Kourin to challenge him to a cardfight. During the battle, Aichi is surprised that the stage brings the cards to life. Both Aichi and Kourin use Royal Paladin decks. Aichi makes a bad decision by not guarding one of Kourin's vanguard attacks, which leads to his defeat. Afterward, another woman named Suiko gives Aichi the King of Knights, Alfred card as a special memento for visiting the shop. Later, Aichi learns from Morikawa that the card shop has mysteriously disappeared.
