Hokkyokuguma Suggoku Hima

A polar bear experiences boredom amidst various marine animals in the deep sea. The piece continues a historical tradition of "Caricatures of Frolicking Animals," presented in an animated scroll painting style titled "Frolicking Sea Animals." It features wordplay in both Japanese and English, such as "Hokyoku-Guma Suggoku Hima" and "Kawauso Kawaisou." The project draws inspiration from 12th to 13th-century Japanese picture scrolls depicting animal caricatures. Marine animals are shown across the world's oceans, with their thoughts and lives conveyed through rhythmic poetry. The bilingual rhymes appear in both languages with identical meanings. The film consists of a single continuous scene and shot lasting seven minutes. It premiered at the 39th Flickers' Rhode Island International Film Festival on August 14, 2021, as part of the 'KIDSEYE FILM FESTIVAL - ANIMATED SHORTS.'
