Saichi "The Immortal" Sugimoto learns about a hidden wealth of gold stolen from the Ainu, and the only way to find it is to decode the tattoos of a group of prisoners, made by the man who had stolen the gold. Sugimoto intends to pursue this rumor with the help of Asirpa, a wise Ainu girl whose father was slain and pilfered from.

Sugimoto is captured by the 7th Division after he leaves the Ainu village in secret. Asirpa plans on taking him back, and maybe beating some sense into him for leaving unannounced.

Sugimoto escapes from the 7th Division’s grasp, but more eyes have been set on the Ainu stash of gold. This new competition comes in the form of Toshizou Hijikata and his army, who strive to gain power along with the gold.

Hijikata's group only gets stronger as they obtain a new katana to be wielded by Toshizou Hijikata himself. Shiraishi investigates the group only to be found out, and he lies himself into cooperating with them, seemingly betraying Sugimoto's group.
