Ep. 9: Miaka encounters Chichiri and flees to Kutou after a deadly ambush on Tamahome's family.

A fox-like monk warns Miaka that Kutou agents are hunting her, vanishing while leaving his hat. Tamahome and Nuriko discover dead guards and an arrow-pinned Nuriko, who recalls the sudden attack. The group travels to Tamahome’s village, where his father is ill and siblings farm. Miaka treats a feverish sister, then faces assassins near a river. Chichiri rescues her using energy from the hat, warning her to act responsibly. They return to find Tamahome’s family and Nuriko bound by wires. An assassin demands Miaka’s life for their safety. Chichiri intervenes, revealing his Suzaku symbol during the fight. Nuriko interrogates the captive, but arrows kill him before he can reveal that Kutou seeks the Priestess of Seiryu. Fearing for Yui’s safety and unwilling to endanger others, Miaka secretly leaves for Kutou.
