Ep. 5: Hotohori decides to send the ill Miaka home to consult Taiitsukun while the group faces a deceptive fog and mirror trap.

Hotohori questions Tamahome regarding Miaka’s severe illness and resolves to send her home to seek aid from Taiitsukun, the ultimate ruler of the universe. He asks her to return once recovered. Outside, Nuriko accuses Tamahome of jealousy and urges him to apologize to Miaka so Hotohori will be free for her. The group travels to Taiitsukun with tension between Miaka and Tamahome. That night, Nuriko directs Tamahome to a mineral spring where Miaka is bathing. Tamahome arrives and saves Miaka from a dark shape, which turns out to be a log. Realizing Miaka is undressed, they turn away and apologize, with Tamahome embarrassed by her appearance. After Tamahome leaves, Nuriko reveals herself as a man. The next day, Hotohori and Miaka have a heart-to-heart discussion, making Tamahome and Nuriko jealous. Taiitsukun tests the group by sending thick fog. Tamahome insults Miaka, causing her to run off. She encounters a dinner table and is trapped in a mirror, where she faces an evil mirror-Miaka.
