EP 1Yuuichi helps Rika climb Mount Houdai to overcome her fear of death
Jan 13, 2006Nurse Akiko stops Yuuichi from sneaking out by barricading his door, offering to lift the restriction if he befriends a new patient. This patient is Rika, a seventeen-year-old in the eastern ward who admires Ryuunosuke Akutagawa. Yuuichi initially lies about reading her favorite author, but she sees through the deception and demands favors in exchange for forgiveness. Rika asks to visit Mount Houdai, the site where her father died, hoping to conquer her fear of mortality. Yuuichi successfully smuggles her out of the hospital. He begins helping her not because of her demands, but due to his own genuine intent. When he attempts to confess his true motivations to her, he suddenly faints.
EP 2Yuuichi inherits porn magazines from Tada, angering Rika and leading to hospital events with Dr. Natsume.
Jan 27, 2006Yuuichi inherits Tada’s pornographic magazines, causing Rika to react with fury and pranks. After Rika locks him on a hospital roof, Yuuichi falls ill and becomes a patient of Dr. Natsume, who recently returned from vacation. Akiko facilitates an apology opportunity, but Yuuichi learns Natsume has monitored Rika for six years. Natsume is surprised Rika shared her illness, as she never made friends. He provides a magazine, which Rika catches Yuuichi reading, leading to him being locked out again. Akiko realizes Natsume orchestrated this for entertainment. Although Rika and Yuuichi reconcile, Yuuichi insults the doctor when Rika attributes her apology to his influence. Rika throws her prized book, which belonged to her father, onto a window ledge.
EP 3Yuuichi burns the collection and faces Dr. Natsume's harsh reality
Feb 3, 2006Yuuichi rescues a book from rain with Tsukasa, resulting in a fever dream that becomes reality when Rika visits. Upon recovery, he burns Tada's pornography at Dr. Natsume's surprise, claiming Rika demands it for forgiveness. Rika lends him Night on the Galactic Railroad, while Dr. Natsume warns her mother of her worsening condition. A drunken Dr. Natsume later attacks Yuuichi, predicting their friendship will fail. Yuuichi dismisses this as jealousy but later understands the truth after reading about Campanella's death in the book, realizing the tragic fate awaiting Rika.
EP 4Yuuichi helps Rika experience one day of school life despite her terminal illness.
Feb 10, 2006Rika asks Yuuichi and Akiko to retrieve a camera so she can have her picture taken. While posing, Rika reveals her envy of Yuuichi’s ability to attend school, having never visited one. Yuuichi proposes that Rika pretend to be a student for a single day. With assistance from his friends, Rika borrows a uniform and enters the school grounds, but a teacher discovers them. The boys knock the teacher unconscious to protect Yuuichi. Inside a classroom, Rika confides in Miyuki that she is not afraid of dying, requesting secrecy from Yuuichi. After returning to the hospital, both are punished for their actions. During their punishment, Rika gifts Yuuichi the book Les Thibault, instructing him not to read it until she permits. When Yuuichi mentions plans to watch flowers bloom, Rika suddenly loses consciousness.
EP 5Yuuichi visits Rika in ICU while Akiko enforces secrecy and Dr. Natsume offers medical comfort.
Feb 17, 2006Yuuichi secretly sees Rika for one minute in the intensive care unit. Depressed, he meets Misako, but Akiko intervenes, beating both of them and forbidding Yuuichi from telling Rika. Dr. Natsume comforts Yuuichi on the hospital roof, sharing his own experience with his dying wife. He notes Rika is earnest about her upcoming operation. Before the procedure, Rika mentions Yuuichi can read Les Thibault. Akiko explains Rika taped a photo of Yuuichi to her leg as a charm. Later, Yuuichi reads the book and realizes its ending mirrors Rika’s confession of love, revealing she risks her life for a chance to be with him.

Feb 24, 2006Following her surgery, Rika recovers enough to return to the eastern ward, but Yuuichi is barred from visiting. Dr. Natsume warns Yuuichi that he must eventually choose between his future and Rika’s uncertain life, having blinded him with false optimism to spare him the pain he felt when choosing his career over his wife. Yuuichi overhears this confession and resolves to stay with Rika regardless of the consequences. With friends' assistance, he enters her room to promise his eternal support. Meanwhile, Akiko questions whether Dr. Natsume’s personal happiness outweighs Rika’s well-being, arguing that her current joy is preferable to her past state. After the credits, Yuuichi and Rika visit Mount Houdai, where he pledges to cherish her and they share a kiss.
