It is revealed that Doronma had merely noticed a dead fly on the spell book. Shocked, Ponygon returns home while Zatch consoles him.

They encounter Kido and Doctor Riddles, who challenge them to a contest against The Majestic 12. The Professor uses this group to pose a riddle, which Kiyo solves correctly, causing the creatures to leave. The next day, Riddles issues a battle challenge, promising to reveal book secrets if the pair wins. During the fight, Zatch and Kiyo are repeatedly overpowered by Kido.
