Giovanni departs with Mewtwo, leaving Jessie, James, and Meowth in charge. Ash challenges the trio and wins the battle, yet they refuse to award him the Earth Badge, which would be his eighth and final badge. Togepi accidentally activates the blasting off controls while playing, forcing Team Rocket to drop the badge as they are sent flying, allowing Ash to retrieve it.
