Following various activities at the Pokémon Summer Camp, Ash and Tierno end up with identical point totals. To resolve this deadlock, both trainers must enter a tag team match featuring all six of their Pokémon. However, before the competition can begin, the group faces an immediate crisis. Team Rocket has captured the Pokémon belonging to Tierno, Shauna, and Trevor. The trainers must first rescue these captured creatures from the villainous group. Only after securing the safety of their friends' Pokémon can the scheduled battle proceed to determine the camp winner.
