Arata Kangatari

A new princess must be selected from the Hime family every 30 years to serve the Hayagami. This time, only one female is recorded: 15-year-old Arata, who is actually male. With no other options, Arata is forced to disguise himself and take the princess' place until a suitable candidate is found. During the festival, the current princess is killed by her personal guard, the 12 Shinshou, and Arata is also marked for death. One of the guards, Kannagi, falsely accuses Arata of the murder, causing the Imperial Court to pursue him.
